Flag Updates

Last season’s flagset adjustments were very well received, and so we’re making very few adjustments this season, and the seeds will play very similarly to those you’re familiar with from previous seasons. Here’s a rundown of the changes:

Changes this season include:

Objectives: Unlock KT Skip -> Complete any 1 of: Recruit 9 characters, Find 12 espers, Complete 22 checks (was Complete any 1 of: Recruit 9 characters, Find 12 espers, Complete 21 checks)

Alongside the improved dead check rewards, the skip for 21 dead checks was effective in making dead checks feel less punishing. However, the side effect of this was that it was sometimes a bit too effective, resulting in intentionally chasing this skip being a correct strategy a little too often.

This adjustment nudges the skip up to 22 checks, re-aligning the skip with the original intention of being “bad luck prevention” for when a seed just insists on giving you a steady diet of dead checks. While there will still be situations where pushing for the skip is a strategic play, the hope is that this happens less frequently.

Starting Lores: 6-10 (was 3-5)

Thanks to a spell list with an awful lot of duds, Lore is one of the less impressive commands in vanilla. Consequently, Lore ends up being a “blank” ability in Worlds Collide seeds far too often. While it’s technically possible to acquire new Lores in Worlds Collide, it’s not viable to actually pursue them thanks to time constraints, random enemy locations, and enemy ability scaling. Unlike Dance, Rage, or Tools, improving a poor Lore command is simply not a realistic option in Worlds Collide racing.

With this change, starting Lore lists have a 94% chance of having at least one of the “decent” Lores (Quasar, GrandTrain, Aero, Big Guard, Pearl Wind, CleanSweep, Aqua Rake, or Blow Fish), and a 71% chance of getting one or more of the premium Lores (Quasar, GrandTrain, Aero, or Pearl Wind). As a result, starting with a Lore character should be less groan-worthy, and finding a Lore character with a decent Mag. Pwr stat will lead to more interesting party composition decisions.

Cursed Shld Battles: 7-15 (was 6-14)

The reintroduction of Ultima into the wild was one of the most notable changes in season 5, and the Cursed Shld is one of the most common ways of getting access to the big blue bubble. While the Cursed Shld is generally in a good spot but with Ultima, the “acceptable” number of battles to decurse seems to have gone higher, with players more likely to take the risky, difficult road of decursing the shield to get access to Ultima.

Nudging this flag up a bit keeps that choice difficult in more seeds. The “easy” Cursed Shld should be fairly rare, and the intention here is that choosing to decurse should be difficult choice in most seeds. This change should produce less no-brainer decurses and more lively debates about the appropriate number of Cursed Shld battles in the spoiler rooms!

The new flagstring is:
